Day 18-21 - Jul 1-4

Days 18-21 -  Jul 1 thru Jul 4

We reached Denali National Park early this afternoon. What a beautiful, majestic place to be. However, we will be incommunicado for these next few days because there is no internet or cell phones in this area. The nearest source is at the entry to the park which is 13 miles from our campground. Our campground, Savage Creek, is the remotest that campers can have without making special arrangement. Lots of warnings about bears, containment of food, no feeding of any animals. etc. This is perhaps the most remote area we've camped thus far. There are other campers at Savage Creek, but we are not stacked right next to one another. A very pleasant site, but a little remote for Keith. He's gone into "bear watch" mode. The campground does have a community food shelter which is available to everyone. So overnight, we stick leftover food stuffs in there for safekeeping. Even something as simple as a toothbrush or chewing gum must be removed from our campsite..

Tomorrow  we are scheduled for a 6AM bus ride to the interior of the park, perhaps to see Mt. McKinley (if the weather's clear on the mountain) and any animals that may be out-and-about. It'll be an 8 hour trip.

We don't have any other scheduled trips during our stay here, but will probably do a little hinting, if weather permits.

See you in a few days - with pictures. Have a Happy Fourth!
